Reporting to the Sustainable Mobility Project Manager - Bike Expertise, the main responsibilities of the bike mechanic at the external workshops are the maintenance of the BIXI bike fleet and answering general questions from customers at the workshops and temporary summer hubs.


This is a seasonal outdoor position in our 2 new outdoor workshops for the duration of the BIXI Montréal summer season.


What you will do :

  • Open and close your workshop/ hub
  • Welcome customers to the workshop/hub for the maintenance and repair of their bicycles
  • Carry out diagnostics and minor maintenance/repairs on bikes brought by customers in real time to ensure their safety and optimal equipment performance
  • Carry out repairs and getting bikes in good condition at the workshop/hub (e.g. brakes, chain lubrication, replacing parts, changing batteries, adjusting gears, etc.)
  • Assist customers with the rental of different types of bikes from the BIXI fleet
  • Answer users' questions about the responsible use of bicycles and the transport options available in the city (cycle paths, public transport, connections between modes of transport)
  • Keep an updated inventory of BIXI bikes available at their workstation for the team's day-to-day operations
  • Ensure availability of bikes at the station and rebalance the inventory when required
  • Keep your workshop/hub clean and organized for future customers
  • Other related tasks as requested by your supervisor


Job requirements

What we're looking for :

Knowledge and skills

  • A completed High School Diploma
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in bicycle mechanics or workshops (or any other combination of experience)
  • Knowledge of the vocabulary, components and systems of a bicycle
  • Perfectly bilingual speaker (French-English)
  • Physical skills to handle heavy loads (to move bicycles weighing 22 kg/50 lbs)
  • Montréal's streets and directions hold no secrets for you
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (days, evenings and weekends)
  • General knowledge of BIXI Montréal and its services (an asset)
